Vodafone Warriors come out of Storm in relatively good shape

Auckland, New Zealand, August 28, 2001 – Despite last night’s bruising encounter against the Melbourne Storm, the Vodafone Warriors returned home today with only one injury concern.

Fullback David Myles twisted his ankle during the 24-24 draw and remains a doubtful starter although he has been selected for this Sunday’s fixture against the Cowboys.

Late last night, Shontayne Hape was cleared of any serious injury after being carried from the field with his neck in a brace. He suffered slight bruising only and has been named to play on the wing.

Vodafone Warriors head coach Daniel Anderson is relieved his side has confirmed their position in the top-eight and they can look forward to the Cowboys game with a bit less pressure.

“I was proud of the way the team not only withstood the barrage of attack from the Storm in the second half, but also the inferior state of the pitch. The rock hard surface and defence of Melbourne has left my guys a bit battered and bruised. We will spend a day recovering tomorrow (Wednesday) before I reassess the full fitness of my entire squad,” said Anderson.

“This Sunday is the last chance this season for the fans to see their team. I hope the public get out to Ericsson in big numbers and get right behind the guys. They have being playing sudden-death football for over a month and have delivered on everything asked of them.”

The Vodafone Warriors team to play the North Queensland Cowboys is:
1. Ivan Cleary
2. Henry Faafili
3. Clinton Toopi
4. Francis Meli
5. Shontayne Hape
6. Motu Tony
7. Stacey Jones (c)
8. Jerry SeuSeu
9. Monty Betham
10. Ali Lauitiiti
11. Wairangi Koopu
12. Awen Guttenbeil
13. Kevin Campion (c)
14. Nathan Wood
15. Mark Tookey
16. David Myles
17. Richard Villasanti
18. Jason Death

The Vodafone Warriors will take on the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday 2 September, 2.00pm at Ericsson Stadium.
