Yachting NZ Youth Team Still Leading The Field

YACHTING NEW ZEALAND - OFFICIAL MEDIA RELEASE

YACHTING NEW ZEALAND YOUTH TEAM STILL LEADING THE FIELD IN THE VOLVO TEAM TROPHY

Day four of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in Nova Scotia is now drawing to a close and the Yachting New Zealand 2002 Youth Team have held onto their lead in the Volvo Team Team Trophy (awarded to best overall team). They have notched up 259 points ahead of the USA (221) and France (216).

Conditions in Nova Scotia played havoc with racing on day four. The light wind gusts resulted in the cancellation of racing for the Mistral class, while all other racing was delayed until the afternoon. At the end of play the 29er boys and girls completed two races, while competitors in the Laser and Byte fleets managed only one.

Results remain the same In the 29er class. Geoff Woolley and Mark Overington finished with a 4th and 2nd to remain only one point behind the current leaders. While in the girls Rachel O'Brien and Kelly Riechelmann hold their 3rd place with an 11th (discard) and 3rd.

In the Laser class, Michael Bullot is now 3rd equal with the Croatian competitor both sitting on 30 points, 5 behind 2nd placeholder Tobias Schadewaldt of Germany.

While in the girls Byte, Kate O'Brien just holds her top 10 placing with a 2nd in race 7 and 15th in race 8. She is in 9th place overall.

Thomas Ashley and Anna Eason are hoping for better conditions tomorrow to ensure the Mistral class races can proceed.
