antipodean records presents PLACES & SPACES

This Friday, 20 June / Khuja Lounge, Auckland

The kick-off for Antipodean Records' new monthly clubnite at Auckland's Khuja Lounge with resident DJ Chris Cox hosting with guests Zen, Dan Clarke and direct from the UK, Kaidi Tatham (Bugz in the Attic/Herbaliser).

Music policy is strictly the freshest sounds worldwide - heavy beats and soulful vibes spanning broken beat and 21st century soul. Following in the steps of UK clubnite Co-Op and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide sessions, Places & Spaces is about checking out something a bit different - it's all about the music.

Very special guest Kaidi Tatham is a genius musician/producer from West London's broken beat scene. He's brought his talent to the live shows of The Herbaliser, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Nathan Haines, recordings with 4Hero, remixes for Macy Gray, and is the nucleus of the massively forward moving production crew Bugz in the Attic. Kaidi's album 'Feed the Cat' (Laws of Motion/Giant Step) under his Agent K guise is a truly innovative take on beats driven soul music - seeing this man play live is unmissable.

Places & Spaces @ Khuja Lounge - Queen St, Auckland 3rd Friday of the month Monthly guests $10 on the door, 10pm kickoff

Concession list - email 'Melodius Beats Volume 1' giveaways on the night Tune in to Chris Cox on GeorgeFM Thur 19 June 8-10pm (NZT) www.georgefm.co.nz

Howard Davis Article: A Musical Axis - Brahms, Wagner, Sibelius

Brahms' warm and exquisitely subtle Symphony No. 3 in F major, Wagner's irrepressibly sentimental symphonic poem Siegfried Idyll, and Sibelius' chilling and immensely challenging Violin Concerto in D minor exemplify distinct stages of development in a tangled and convoluted series of skirmishes that came to define subsequent disputes about the nature of post-Romantic orchestral writing well into the following century.
