One News And 3 News Battle It Out

One News And 3 News Battle It Out To Be Crowned Best On The Box

It’s a head to head race for the crown of Best News/Current Affairs show on New Zealand television in this year’s TV Guide Best on the Box People’s Choice Awards.

One News and 3 News are almost neck and neck and with just four days of voting left, TVNZ’s flagship show has 39% of the vote while its rival on TV3 has polled 38%.

“This is the first year we’ve asked readers to name their top news show and the results so far are unprecedented,” said TV Guide editor Antony Phillips. “In three years of polling, we’ve never had a category so closely contested.

“Given the upheaval in the television industry this year, I’m sure the networks will be watching this contest with an eagle eye.”

The Holmes Show is struggling in the Best News/Current Affairs category with only 4% of the vote, a sign that the enduring popularity of Paul Holmes may be waning.

TV Guide’s Best on the Box awards are the biggest annual poll on who and what is hot on New Zealand television. They are voted on by readers of the TV Guide, New Zealand’s largest selling weekly magazine. Last year, more than 72,000 votes were cast across 18 categories. Voting has already passed that number this year with four days of polling still to go. Voting forms are in the TV Guide issue now on sale.

Best News Current Affairs Show results to date:

One News 39%
3 News 38%
Flipside 8%
Te Karere 4%
Holmes 4%
Face to Face 3%
Home Truths 1%

Television celebrities and network personnel will be descending on Auckland for the inaugural awards luncheon ceremony on December 11th, where the winning stars and networks will be presented with a Best on the Box trophy.

Ends.
