PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Warren Miller Returns to Auckland
For the first time in four years, the thrills, the spills and the breathtaking scenery from legendary filmmaker Warren Miller return to Auckland.
Warren Miller's latest feature film JOURNEY premieres at The Civic, THE EDGE„¥ on June 18 for a limited season of three nights.
Filmed on location in the United States, France, Italy, Switzerland, Morocco and Chile using 19 camera crews and 73 athletes, JOURNEY features 95 minutes of adrenalin-pumping action bringing the best ski and snowboard footage to the big screen. JOURNEY also includes a special tribute to the late Craig Kelly, the pioneer of snowboarding.
Warren Miller is described as the guru of snow film and has clocked up 54 full-length movies in 54 years. Now aged 78, Warren has handed the filming over to professional camera crews but ensures that the films continue to feature his trademarks - superb snow-riding action from the extreme to the sublime, together with breathtaking scenery, exotic locations, famous resorts, well-known faces and unique local characters.
And Warren remains "the voice' of JOURNEY, bringing the film to life with his wry commentary and quirky insights. He also makes a cameo appearance showing that stylishly smooth turns on snow are not just the domain of the young.
THE EDGE„¥ Theatre and Programming Development Director Robbie Macrae is excited about bringing Warren Miller back to the big screen in Auckland and says the screening of JOURNEY is to be the first of an annual Warren Miller film season.
Warren Miller"s JOURNEY plays at The Civic, THE EDGE„¥ from June 18-20. Plus all ticketholders gain entry into the snow expo in The Civic foyer which opens 45 minutes before each screening. As an added bonus all adult ticketholders leave the theatre with a 2-for-1 Buddy Pass for use on Coronet Peak during the 2004 ski season. Book at Ticketek on 09 307-5000 or www.ticketek.com
"I don't know how it was humanely or emotionally possible" - veteran Warren Miller cameraman Don Brolin describing a segment in JOURNEY.
