Lotto Powerball Strikes Twice In The Auckland Region
They say lightning never strikes twice, but this weekend proved that Lotto Powerball can and does. Lotto Powerball was struck again on Saturday night and has created its second multi-millionaire in the Auckland region in as many weeks.
One lucky ticket bought at Manukau City Lotto won both Lotto Powerball and Guaranteed Millionaire on Saturday night, creating the fifth multi-millionaire this year New Zealand Lotteries Commission Chief Executive Trevor Hall announced today.
“The ticket has been claimed and has won a total of $2 million. The lucky winner won $1 million from Lotto Powerball and is also our Guaranteed Millionaire which means they will take away another $1 million. There was one other Division One winner who won $250,000,” he said.
“We are absolutely delighted for the winner who is about to have a life-changing experience,” says Mr Hall.
“Lotto Powerball has always been the big game with long odds that offers huge prizes. It’s totally unpredictable, and could go at any time. It’s extremely unusual to have it create two multi-millionaires in the same location in consecutive weeks.
“This caps off what has been an unbelievable year for Lotto Powerball, one that has made more multi-millionaires in a six month period than ever before.”
He says this is the fifth time this year a multi-million dollar prize has been won. A $2.7 million prize was won in January by a ticket bought in St Albans, Christchurch, $4.3 million went to a ticket bought in Whangarei in May, $5.2 million went to a ticket bought in St Heliers in June and the largest individual prize in New Zealand lottery history of $14.7 million went to a ticket bought in Kawerau in April.
Rounding out the top
individual lottery prizes ever won are $11.4 million that
went to a ticket bought in Hokitika in November 2002, $9.8
million from a ticket bought in Wanganui in May 2002 and
$8.2 million won in June 2001 from a ticket bought in
Whangarei.
