48 Hours - Furious Filmmaking Competition

Hi Everyone,

48HOURS finished this last weekend in Wellington, with the short HEINOUS CRIME being judged best Wellington 48HOURS short to yet another sold-out final.

And so, as must all good things, this years competition has nearly come to a close. Everyone can now view many of the films online at http://www.nzshortfilm.com website. A DVD and TV specials are also coming in the next few weeks.

Many thanks to our generous sponsors (see below) and a huge thank you to all who took part in this years very successful 48HOURS challenge. Whether you were the stuntman who crushed his ankle and missed out on being in Vincent Ward's new movie, the team that caused an armed defenders alert, ot the agency pros slumming it, or NZ Idolers hamming it up to simply the 14yr olds who called themselves The Peter Jackson Juniours and made a science fiction epic for $15. And to every other person who contributed in some way to help make a short in 48 hours or die trying, I salute you.

It was a tremendous achievement from all involved. It could easily be argued that this was possibly NZs greatest filmmaking weekend, with more cinematic creativity occurring on June 11-13 than any other weekend in NZs history. Rental houses ran out of gear, every editing suite was used up, hundreds of actors, crews volunteered their services for the weekend along with friends, families and pets. Celebrities got involved and made fun of themselves. And teams from as far away as Northland to ChCh took part. All for the genuine love of getting out with comrades and making NZ film.

Some interesting stats.

2000+ people took part in the filmmaking weekend.

6500+ people attended the screenings and voted.

The official website had 40,000 visitors in two weeks.

The event got coverage in the NZ Herald, Sunday Star Times, The Dominion Post, Capital Times, Manawatu Times, Scoop, Xtrasite, TV ONE News, TONIGHT TV ONE, NIGHTLINE, FLIPSIDE, C4, JUICE TV, FRONTSEAT, 95BFM, Radio Active, ZM, National Radio, RNZ + many websites and university magazines.

1000 DVDs are being produced of the best from both cities.

A one-hour documentary is screening soon on C4

Two one hour specials showcasing the best shorts will screen after doco on C4.
