Brazilian supermodel goes for gold in Lucire’s March 2005 issue

Wellington and Auckland, March 7 (JY&A Media) Cinthia Moura, represented by ID Model Management, graces the ‘Gold Fever’ cover of Lucire out Monday, March 7, in a special feature shot by top New York photographer Yann Dandois.
Organized by Lucire’s Director of Beauty in New York, Jessica Tarazi, the Brazilian stunner appeared courtesy of America’s top model agent, Paolo Zampolli, who has been connected to Lucire since the late 1990s.
Make-up was by Ms Tarazi, while Miss Moura’s hair was styled by Benoît Poirier d’Ambreville, freelance artist for L’Oréal Professionnel USA. Jill Davis styled the shoot.
The New Zealand-owned magazine has always looked for distinctive professional photography to grace its covers since it spawned a monthly print edition in October 2004.
Editor-in-chief Nicola Brockie says, ‘We believe that if New Zealand fashion magazines are to compete seriously around the world, we have to adopt the highest standards in the world.
‘If that means we can get a Brazilian supermodel, then we should. Lucire has always been about putting New Zealand in the context of the world. We’re proud to show off our country and what we are capable of.
‘Jessica Tarazi has done the make-up for four consecutive Lucire covers and the March issue is her best yet.’
Using L’Oréal Paris products, Ms Tarazi gave Miss Moura a memorable golden look on eyes, cheeks, face and lips.
Inside Lucire are stories on Dunedin designer Tanya Carlson, as photographed by Janet Liu of Vision 8 Photography, Takapuna goldsmith Ken Robinson, Auckland shoe designer Kathryn Wilson, and one of the most comprehensive beauty sections in any fashion magazine worldwide.
Jane Iredale, the mineral guru, Lizie Clifton of SugarBaby and Jacques Cavallier of Firmenich are three of the personalities who appear in Beauty. There is a concealer and concealer brush feature and a full story on how Cinthia Moura got her cover look.
Founding publisher Jack Yan interviews Nicky Watson, focusing on her spirituality, her appetite for books and her personal philosophy. Douglas Rimington photographed Ms Watson.
Phillip D. Johnson provides his regular wisdom on men’s grooming, this time on hair care, and reviews the Funkshion show in Miami, as photographed by Richard Spiegel.
New correspondent Elyse Glickman ventures to Bilbao, while entertainment editor Devin Colvin reports from the Sundance Film Festival. Lucire also covers the Golden Globes and the Wellington Cup.
Some of the most stunning shoots in the magazine’s history come from Richard Warren, expat Kiwi Antony Nobilo, and Clay Poole, giving the magazine its global feel.
‘The idea is to give you a feeling that you have been around the world,’ says Lucire Director of Advertising Lisa Tardrew. ‘This issue does that particularly well, without sacrificing its unique New Zealand voice.’
‘It’s wonderful to have created such a high standard for fashion publishing here,’ says Miss Brockie, ‘and it is a standard which we will better.’
Already the Lucire team believes it has created a benchmark for other fashion magazines and has noticed its story and layout concepts influencing others around the world.
In late April, Lucire will launch its Romanian edition, published in the Romanian language—the eastern European entry is a first for a New Zealand publication.
The magazine has been especially buoyant since its February 2005 cover, starring triple Grammy Award nominee Vanessa Carlton, and sponsorship at two New York Fashion Week catwalk shows. In March, Lucire will be supporting Girls’ Day Out at the Auckland Showgrounds. It will also support the Ponsonby Fringe Festival and Miami’s Fashion Week of the Americas over the next two months.
