Shihad To Launch NZ Music Month

MEDIA RELEASE - 15 April 2005

Shihad To Launch NZ Music Month

New Zealand Music Month is very pleased to announce the return home of SHIHAD to perform a FREE one-off show at Auckland's Aotea Square, Sunday 1st May, to mark the official launch of NZ Music Month 2005.

Presented by Vodafone, the all-ages performance will celebrate the release of SHIHAD's sixth album Love Is The New Hate in music stores the following day.

"New Zealand Music Month turns five this year, and there's no better way to celebrate the launch than with a free outdoor concert by the country's most revered live band, Shihad" says Anthony Healey, Chairman of the NZ Music Month Committee. "With NZ music being played on TV and radio like never before, the whole country can join the celebration throughout May."

NZ Music Month provides a platform to celebrate all genres of music in Aotearoa, and helped to push local content on NZ radio to a record 25% in the third week of NZ Music Month last year, a massive increase on the 10% achieved five years earlier in May 2001.

From a motley bunch of high school bogans who bonded over speed metal in 1988, Shihad have evolved over the years to become the nation's most electrifying and devastating live band.

When Shihad take the stage anywhere in New Zealand it is far more than a gig, it is an event. They are a truly iconic band whose immense reputation precedes them wherever they go. So when they step up to the plate in Auckland's Aotea Square on Sunday May 1 there's no other place you'd want to be.

At Aotea Square, Shihad will not only be bursting forth with favourite cuts from Killjoy, Shihad, The General Electric and Pacifier, but there's a whole new batch of songs on offer from their latest studio recording including the new singles ALIVE and ALL THE YOUNG FASCISTS. Three years in the making, Love Is The New Hate is the first local album to be released this May, further cementing Shihad as the perfect band to launch New Zealand Music Month 2005.

Shihad, Aotea Square, Auckland, Sunday 1 May. 4pm-5pm. FREE ENTRY.
