Jazz between the shelves

Jazz between the shelves

As a part of May Music Month at Christchurch City Libraries, one of New Zealand's top jazz singers will be bringing her smooth and sultry voice to the Central Library.

Christchurch-trained jazz diva Jennine Bailey is giving a free lunchtime performance on Friday 27th May at 1pm, helping the Library celebrate New Zealand Music Month and highlight its extensive musical resources. Anyone who borrows 3 CDs or tapes from any Christchurch City Library before the end of May gets the 4th free - and goes into a draw to win an Apple iPod.

Jennine was recently voted in the top three of an international jazz vocalist competition, selected by 30,000 people world-wide. The tracks she submitted were from her critically acclaimed debut album 'You go to my Head', from which she'll be performing songs including 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' and Dave Dobbyn's classic 'Shouldn't You Oughta Be In Love' at the Library.

With a singing career spanning the last decade, Jennine has been favourably compared Norah Jones and soulful songstress, Eva Cassidy. Jennine is equally at home with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in front of an audience of 100,000 as she is with a small audience and her guitar.

Jennine's performance is just one of many running until Sunday 29 May at Christchurch City Libraries. Other upcoming highlights include veteran flamenco guitarist Phil Bates, St Paul's Society of Bellringers and leading NZ solo guitarist Graham Wardrop.
