Auckland’s smash hit musical of the year - Cole Porter’s HIGH SOCIETY adapted by Carolyn Burns at SKYCITY Theatre November 19 – December 17.

The flowers have arrived, the champagne's on ice and the guests, press and paparazzi are assembling. All they need now is for the bride to choose the groom!

A giddy blend of toe-tapping songs, bubbling one-liners and champagne-fuelled comedy, High Society is the grand finale to Auckland Theatre Company's 2005 season.

Based on the Oscar winning classic The Philadelphia Story, this exhilarating show stars Angela Shirley as aristocratic bride-to-be Tracy Lord, with an all star cast of leading New Zealand musical performers Helen Medlyn (Hell Bent, Into the Woods, Cabaret), Vicky Haughton (Whale Rider, In My Fathers Den), Mark Hadlow (A Christmas Carol, Golf the Musical), Emmeline Hawthorne (The Return, Arcadia, Shortland Street), Roy Snow (Ladies Night, Shortland Street), David Aston (Equus, Caligua), Latham Gaines (The Graduate, Cabaret), and Mike Edward (Rocky Horror Show, Travesties).

The dream team of Raymond Hawthorne and Tracy Grant take the creative helm in this sumptuous feast of all American opulence with the best of musical direction and gloriously extravagant costumes and settings.

“High Society is an hilarious, toe tapping, eye brow raising musical … and I like that” says Hawthorne with a grin.

Rounding off the glamour is a live onstage band belting out Cole Porter favourites Swell Party, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, De-Lovely and I Got You Under My Skin. High Society will send Auckland bubbling into the festive season.

“It’s the season to swing alright! We’re celebrating! And you just got yourself invited my friend.”
