MAD HOT BALLROOM - 26 December

11-year-old New York City public school kids journey into the world of
ballroom dancing and reveal pieces of themselves and their world along the
way. Told from their candid, sometimes hilarious perspectives, these kids
are transformed, from reluctant participants to determined competitors,
from typical urban kids to "ladies and gentlemen," on their way to try to
compete in the final citywide competition. Providing unique insight into
the incredible cultural diversity that is New York City, this film
profiles several kids from three schools (out of 60) at this dynamic age,
when becoming that "cool" teenager vies for position with familiar
innocence, while they learn the merengue, rumba, tango, the foxtrot and

THE JACKET - 12 January

William Starks is a Gulf War vet who returns home after a near death
experience hoping to simply resume his life. Instead, he gets caught up in
a series of bizarre events: he is accused of a murder he has no
recollection of committing and is sent to a state-run hospital for the
criminally insane.

His assigned caretaker, Dr. Becker, uses a barbaric technique to elicit
confessions from his patients: they are stripped naked, stuffed into a
torturous box-like suit called "The Jacket", and placed into a cadaver
drawer for days. When a fellow inmate teaches Starks a mental technique to
help him stay sane, he takes it to a whole new level. Using his pain to
make him stronger, he learns how to travel through time, thus mentally
escaping from the horrors of physical confinement. Free to travel through
time, he searches for answers to the murder he is accused of committing
and sets out to save himself from the past.

contemporary world. Christine Jesperson (July) is a lonely artist and

Hawkes), a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys, is prepared
for amazing things to happen. But when he meets the captivating Christine,
he panics. Life is not so oblique for Richard's 7-year-old Robby, who is

LORD OF WAR - 23 March

Based on fact, LORD OF WAR is an action adventure story set in a world of
international arms dealing. The film explores a little-known consequence
of the end of the Cold War - the enormous quantity of arms that suddenly
became available for sale by former Soviet states to developing countries
(especially in Africa) and the vast sums of money made by the arms dealers
who sold them. Many believe it is the greatest heist of the 20th Century.
In Ukraine alone between 1982 and 1992 over $32 billion in arms were
stolen. No culprit has ever been caught or prosecuted. The film follows
the globe trotting exploits of arms dealer Yuri Orlov. Through some of the
deadliest war zones, Yuri struggles to stay one step ahead of a relentless
Interpol agent, his business rivals, even some of his customers who
include many of the world's most notorious dictators. Finally, Yuri must
also face his own conscience.
