Animated Children’s Classics In Maori

Animated Children’s Classics Reversioned Into Maori

Stylish, timeless and uniquely contemporary animated versions of classic children’s stories have been re-recorded into the Maori language for Maori Television.

Screening every Monday at 5.00 PM, the hour-long slot – KOHAO PIPI – features timeless tales such as SLEEPING BEAUTY (Monday October 9); SNOW WHITE (Monday October 16); SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON (Monday October 23); WHITE FANG (Monday October 30); THE MAGIC ARK (Monday November 6); THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (Monday November 13); and THE APOSTLES (Monday November 20).

Auckland-based Kiwa Film and Television Limited re-recorded the big-budget classics into the Maori language.

The revolutionary production company has already produced hundreds of hours of reversioned programming including Buzz and Poppy, Te Hiriwa Puihi (The Silver Brumby), The Slow Norris, Waiheke Mania (Watership Down), Creatures Fantastic, The Forgotten Toys, Spider In The Bath, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Friends, Animal Alphabets, Animal Numbers and the successful Wild South documentary series.

More recently, Maori Television has been screening Sky Dancers, Pippi Longstocking, The Backyardigans, The New Adventures of Ocean Girl and Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends.

Kiwa employs a pool of native and fluent Maori speakers to play the voices for all types of creatures and characters – from rabbits to queens – while maximising state-of-the-art technology.

Catch the colourful, animated versions of classic children’s stories – re-recorded into the Maori language – only in Maori Television’s KOHAO PIPI slot every Monday at 5.00 PM.
