Crusty Demon To Perform Stunt Off Sky Tower

Crusty Demon To Perform Stunt Off Sky Tower

In an unprecedented and death-defying world first, Kiwi Crusty Demon and world number one female free-style motocross rider ‘Scary’ Mary Perkins will this month bungy jump off Auckland’s Sky Tower on a 110cc motocross bike.

Crusty Demon’s promoter, Mike Porra, said Mary would wave farewell to Sky Tower patrons at 11 a.m. on Thursday 16 November then plummet from a heady height of 192 metres down towards Auckland’s Central Business District to officially launch the Crusty Demons’ Kiwi Carnage Tour.

“Mary will fall at a hair raising speed of 640 kilometres per hour with the only thing holding her and her bike being a bungy cord.”

23 year-old Mary, who is the Crusty Demons’ first and only female rider, said she can’t wait to be part of such an amazing world first stunt that is set to be a visual spectacle for onlookers.

“Naturally, I’m feeling a bit nervous about the jump,” Mary said.

“Most bungy jumps happen above water so it will be a bit freaky looking down onto buildings and roads.

“However, I expect it will be an awesome and exhilarating experience. I love freestyle motocross and being part of the Crusty Demons, so I can’t wait to get up there and make the stunt happen.”

Mike Porra said Mary’s spectacular stunt will officially launch the 2007 Kiwi Carnage Tour presented by The Rock. It will be the first stage of an all new world tour which will then move to Australia, India, China, the USA and Europe over the next 12 months.

“Mary’s Sky Tower stunt is what the Crusty Demons are all about, providing the most action-packed, death defying entertainment available anywhere in the world,” Porra said.

“The Crusty Demons shows are all about pushing the boundaries and Scary Mary’s stunt is certainly that. She really is one gnarly young women, it’s amazing that she’s stepped up for this ahead of the guys.”

Porra said the 2007 Kiwi Carnage Tour features an impressive rider line-up including multi X Games gold medallist and world number one Nate Adams, X Games medallist Adam Jones, Alaska’s Jimmy Blaze – the only man in the world to flip a snow mobile ramp to ramp, and California’s quad back flipper Jon Guetter.

“They’ll be joined by Australian riders Bilko Williams – a 2006 X Games medallist, Matt Schubring, Joel Balchin, Cam Sinclair and Steve Mini, all of whom are back flipping over 75ft. Kiwi riders Luke Smith, the youngest ever full Crusty Demons member 15 year-old Levi Sherwood, and, of course, Scary Mary will also be in the world tour.”

To see Mary’s groundbreaking bungy jump, members of the public should be at the base or surrounding areas of the Sky Tower on Thursday 16 November just before 11am.

Tickets to the Crusty Demons Kiwi Carnage shows will be on sale through Ticketek (for the Christchurch and Auckland shows), and Ticket Direct (for Dunedin, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Hamilton shows), on Monday November 20th.
