Raglan Rules at Surf Life Saving Northern Region IRB Carnival at Orewa

Raglan took out the number one spot over Piha, Muriwai, Ruakaka and Orewa at the Northern Region Surf Lifesaving IRB carnival held at Orewa yesterday (Sunday, 26 November 2006).

Raglan Surf Life Saving Club Surf Sports Coordinator, Dennis Amoore was delighted with Raglan’s performance:

“Looking at surf sports events and the number of competitors we have from our region we are really pleased with how well we did”.

Raglan won 13 of the 25 events and finished second in a further four races.

Surf Life Saving Northern Region Sport Development Officer Miriam Ellis says that surf sports are an important component to surf lifesaving as it is often a motivator for young New Zealanders to get involved in their local Surf Life Saving club.

Miss Ellis also says that Surf Sports help keep lifeguards fit and work on the skills that are important to lifeguarding duties.
