Book In to Booked Out

Book In to Booked Out

There’s a bumper crop of visiting international writers for Wellington book lovers to pick their way through during February, as the New Zealand Book Council’s Booked Out literary season gets under way.

It’s the first time Booked Out will run in Wellington, and the programme features more than ten writer events between February and June. Participating writers include Jack Lasenby, Bernard Beckett, Damien Wilkins, Lloyd Jones, Jo Randerson, Ans Westra, Kate De Goldi, Kate Grenville and Joanne Harris.
At the start of the season, British writer Marina Lewycka (author of A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian) will be appearing to discuss her new book, Two Caravans, on 13 February.

Bestseller Conn Iggulden will be discussing his latest books, The Dangerous Book for Boys, and Wolf of the Plains with radio presenter Sean Plunket on 14 February, while much-loved travel writer Bill Bryson is guaranteed to raise laughs when he discusses his chrome-plated 1950’s childhood, history, and travel with poet and reviewer, Harry Ricketts on 20 February.

Critically acclaimed fantasy novelist Elizabeth Knox will also be speaking on 22 February, promoting her new novel, Dreamquake.

For more information about these events, go to www.bookcouncil.org.nz or call 499 1569.
