Documentary festival keeping it real for the third year running


Following the outstanding success of 2005 and 2006, Australasia's premiere International Documentary Film Festival; DOCNZ returns to Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington from the 27th of September - 21 November 2007 with an increased programme of local and international films and events that offer real life insights into the diverse identities and cultures that from all over the globe.

In response to the increasing international popularity of the documentary genre, the 2007 festival will increase from the impressive line-up of 136 films from 21 countries, showcased in last years programme. In its third year DOCNZ will continue to premiere films that cross a wide range of subjects and styles designed to appeal to a wide public audience - offering something for everyone.

Now in its third year, DOCNZ continues to strengthen the NZ film industry by providing opportunities to local documentary film-makers to develop and present work that has the potential to compete on the world stage. DOCNZ 2006 was highly contested by critically acclaimed films from all around the world and the festival again seeks submissions in 2007 from local and international documentary film-makers to compete for 3 international and 5 national festival awards in the short, medium and feature length categories.

The festival is also inviting submissions for a special curated programme based on the theme MEDIA WATCH - relating to the rise of new media and its impact on issues such as information access, control and privacy.

During the 8 week festival programme DOCNZ will also host prominent guests from NZ and overseas for a series of forums, master classes, lectures and other industry related events that will run alongside the scheduled public screenings and the documentary film competition.

DOCNZ was founded in 2005 and is the only documentary dedicated film festival in Australasia. Recognized internationally, DOCNZ is a prestigious film event bringing new business and filmic opportunities and great exposure to New Zealand.

DOCNZ 2007 plays
Auckland: 27 September - 10 October at Academy Cinemas & Skycity Cinemas (CBD)
Dunedin: 11-21 October at the Octagon
Christchurch: 25 October - 4 November at the Regent on Worcester
Wellington: 8 - 21 November at the Paramount

Deadline for submissions: 15 May 2007 (postmarked).

DOCNZ Summit (Pitching Forum, Master Classes, Seminars) will be held on 24-26 September 2007. Deadline for the Pitching Forum submissions: 31 May 2007

Full festival programme will be released in July 2007.
