New Zealand electronic funk / dub / hip-hop band Rhombus are set to tour their unique and vibrant sound through the Pacific, today announcing the Onwards 2007 Tour, an extensive tour through New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

The seven-piece band, based in Wellington, New Zealand, hit the road for the month-long tour beginning with a hometown gig on May 11 at Sandwiches, wrapping up in Gunma, Japan on June 8.

Rhombus has developed a strong following among international audiences for its eclectic, energetic and funky live-set, spliced with socially conscious lyrics. Last year's international release of Onwards: Remixes & Archives continues to receive positive reviews in Australia and New Zealand, and recently Japan.

Rhombus has forged a well-deserved reputation as one of New Zealand's most original live acts, selling out shows and festivals across the country. Their unique sound has put them at the top of the New Zealand music industry alongside artists such as Fat Freddy's Drop, Shapeshifter and Kora.

This is the first time that the full Rhombus band will tour Japan, although Rhombus co-founders Thomas Voyce and Simon Rycroft played a handful of gigs there in late 2002.

Last year, Thomas and Simon worked with Japan-based NGO The Peace Boat, so they are no strangers to Japanese culture and music. Conducting music workshops for the largely Japanese student crew and playing to a total passenger list of around 2000, they traveled through the Caribbean (including Jamaica - home of Studio One, King Tubby and many other influential artists) and the Pacific.

For New Zealand fans, it's a chance for Rhombus to play to their loyal home audiences before exporting their award-winning sound to international ears.
