17 year old Brendon Hartley still leads the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series by six points despite racing with a broken finger in Nürburgring, Germany over the weekend.
Coming off a flawless weekend at Zolder with two pole positions and two race wins, Hartley broke his little finger playing soccer with his Red Bull team mates last Sunday. Not wanting to lose his championship lead a special hand cast and fireproof glove were made to allow him to race at the world famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany’s Eifel Mountains.
Brendon qualified P9 out of a huge field of 41 cars. In race one on Saturday he was involved in a massive pile up with four cars and could not continue the race. In race two on Sunday he finished an admirable 8th after being rear ended by another car in the first corner, causing suspension damage to his Red Bull car.
Hartley said it was a long, hard weekend with his injured finger causing him a fair bit pain and restricting his ability to turn left. Despite this he was able to gain some valuable points and still leads the Eurocup series championship.
Hartley’s next race is this weekend at Vallelunga in the Formula Renault Italian championship.
