Lucire’s Summer Rayne Oakes among judges for Live Earth video contest

New York and Wellington, June 12 (JY&A Media) Lucire US editor Summer Rayne Oakes and publisher Jack Yan have each been asked to judge international competitions in the month ahead, emphasizing the fashion magazine’s global commitment to new talent and the environment. Ms Oakes, who appeared in a Vanity Fair spread in May, will co-judge the MSN–Treehugger Live Earth video contest in the United States, while Mr Yan is one of the judges for New Zealand’s biggest modelling competition, Cadbury Dream Model Search ’07.

The Live Earth video contest asks entrants to make a one- to two-minute short which answers, ‘What are you doing in your own backyard to fight climate change?’ The deadline is June 23, with videos to be submitted via Soapbox at MSN Video. Winners will get to go to the Live Earth concerts on July 7 at Wembley Stadium, with flights and accommodation taken care of.

Ms Oakes’ fellow judges are Daryl Hannah, Woody Harrelson, Dr David Suzuki, Josh Lucas, Hunter Lovins, Judith Helfand, Q’Orianka Kilchier, Simran Sethi, George Spyros and Rachel McAdams. ‘The best thing that someone in “the establishment” can do,’ says Mr Yan, ‘is to help those who are outsiders get the recognition they deserve.

‘While I believe Lucire will always be a little antiestablishment, we’re proud to help raise the profile of deserving individuals, especially when they share our own causes. ‘At least I know we are not paying mere lip service. Lucire does not need one-off “green issues”. We are green, and have been for years.’
