Red Bull Air Race Soars In Interlaken, Switzerland

Red Bull Air Race Soars To New Heights In Interlaken, Switzerland

The beautiful mountain resort of Interlaken, Switzerland will be the setting this weekend for the fifth stop of the Red Bull Air Race World Series, with the races taking place against the backdrop of the famous trio of peaks, the Eiger, the Mönch and Jungfrau. The world's most talented pilots will race at speeds of up to 400 kph, coping with forces reaching 10G as they tackle a challenging obstacle course in the sky.

American Mike Mangold, 2005 Red Bull Air Race World Champion, scored his first win of the season last month in Istanbul, Turkey but it is Britain's Paul Bonhomme who is currently leading the championship with 20 points. Mangold follows just one point behind. Over one million spectators crowded the banks of the Golden Horn estuary to watch Mangold race to victory.

From the busy skyline of Istanbul to the serene landscape of the Swiss Alps, Interlaken will provide a completely different setting for the next race. Now the pilots head inland to a higher altitude where they will be racing over land instead of sea. They are looking forward to competing for the first time in Switzerland, a new fixture on the Red Bull Air Race World Series calendar.

"The scenery around Interlaken is wonderful. We'll be racing between the Thunersee and Brienzersee with spectacular mountains as a backdrop", said British pilot Nigel Lamb.

During the Air Race weekend, spectators can also look forward to seeing the historic Breitling Super Constellation take to the skies and formation flying from the Breitling Jet Team.
