American Ambassador Snubs Burt Bacharach In Sydney

American Ambassador Snubs Burt Bacharach In Sydney

At Thursday night's official function preceding An Evening with Burt Bacharach at the Sydney Opera House, the Guest of Honour was the American Ambassador to Australia, Robert C McCallum Jnr. The VIP guest and his wife Mimi expressed immense excitement in anticipation of their impending private introduction to the bona-fide legend, to be held backstage following the show.

Mid concert, the charismatic Mr Bacharach revealed to the packed house that he is strongly anti-Bush saying "I never liked to be lied to by a girlfriend, an agent or certainly not the President of the United States" and that he "didn't expect to be invited to the White House during the Bush administration over the next 18 months."

The audience responded with rousing applause in support of his home country comments and Mr Bacharach then performed "Where Did It Go?"**, a song inspired by his concern for the future of his children.

At the end of the night, Mr Bacharach received standing ovations for the awesome 2 hours in concert with his band, singers and The Sydney Symphony.

The American Ambassador departed in haste, accompanied by bewildered minders and without apology to the music icon who was left waiting to be introduced.

Burt Bacharach has received RAVE reviews for all concerts on the sold out Australian tour and heads to New Zealand this week for performance with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Vector Arena on Friday 20th July.

** For the first time, Mr Bacharach was compelled to write the lyrics "as there were things I needed to say" on his uncharacteristically political Grammy awarded current album "At This Time". "Where Did

It Go?" is just one of the immense catalogue of hits performed which audiences have embraced on this tour.

Tickets may be booked for An Evening with Burt Bacharach, his band, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and special guests with TicketMaster on 09 970 9700 or online at www.ticketmaster.co.nz
