Auckland Symphony Orchestra Premieres "Rakaia"
AUCKLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PREMIERES "RAKAIA" ... A NEW WORK BY NORTH SHORE BASED COMPOSER RYAN YOUENS
"Rakaia" will be premiered by the Auckland
Symphony Orchestra this Sunday at the Auckland Town Hall,
followed by next Sunday at the Bruce Mason Theatre. It was
commissioned to be a part of these "river" inspired concerts
which are packed with lots of great "river" music and also
includes Eugene Lee performing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto
in D Major.
Ryan Youens is a composer from Auckland's North Shore City, who recently completed his Masters degree in music at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. In 2005 he graduated in music from Otago University with first class honours. Ryan has studied under Anthony Ritchie, Jack Body, Michael Norris and John Psathas, has workshopped his music with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on two occasions, and has enjoyed premieres by a number of other performers and ensembles. Ryan also conductors two orchestras on Auckland's North Shore and is a music copyist & engraver, orchestrator and arranger with a number of clients both in New Zealand and overseas. He teaches musicianship classes at the Auckland University Academy of Music, works for Trinity Guildhall supervising music examinations, and is a viola player performing regularly with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra and at various gigs around Auckland.
