Hastings Ticket Scoops $8.3 Million Powerball Prize

A lucky man or woman in Hastings has just become a multi-millionaire tonight after winning a Lotto Powerball prize of $8.3 million, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

Since the first live draw twenty years ago on 1 August 1987, the Lotto family has made 421 millionaires and multi-millionaires.

Tonight's winning Lotto Powerball ticket was purchased at Countdown Lotto in Hastings and is worth a total of $8,369,987 with $8,107,064 from winning Powerball First Division and a further $262,923 from also winning Lotto First Division.

This is the third big Powerball prize to be won since mid-June. It was last won on 30 June in Christchurch, with that lucky player taking home $2,306,601, while on June 16, a lucky player who purchased their ticket at Haywards Paper Power in Devonport on the North Shore won a $4,436,871 Powerball prize.

"Kiwi's are beating the odds to win the big prizes and walk away with millions of dollars," said Mr McLeay.

Mr McLeay's advice for the big winner is to write their name and details on the back of their ticket and then get in touch with NZ Lotteries' Wellington office on 04 802 7000.

Tonight has been especially exciting as three Lotto players have also won $1 million each and a further ten players have won $250,000 in Lotto's Twentieth Birthday promotion.*

Four other Lotto tickets, including a second ticket from Hastings, have also won Lotto First Division tonight, winning $262,923 each. The winning tickets were sold at Ngunguru Food Mart in Whangarei, Oneroa Four Square on Waiheke Island, Pt Chevalier Lotto Plus in Auckland, and Radius Pharmacy Peter Dunkerleys in Hastings.

Tonight's Winning Wheel ticket was sold by Grant Bros in Gisborne. The serial number is 726-23831112-20XX.

"Anyone who bought their ticket from any of the above winning stores should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any NZ Lotteries outlet," Mr McLeay says.
