Sydney Sallies to Sing up a Storm

Sydney Sallies to Sing up a Storm

One of Australasia’s premiere choral groups is to make a whistle-stop tour of four North Island cities 11-13 October.

The 32-member Sydney Staff Songsters will sing a range of uplifting and easy listening music as part of their New Zealand tour. They will give concerts in Hamilton, Taupo, Palmerston North and Wellington. While in the capital the group will also run a vocal workshop with the focus on presentation and communication.

The Sydney-based group is made up members of the Salvation Army in Australia, who volunteer their time and talent to reach out to others through the medium of music. Their aim is to uplift and encourage their audiences, while at the same time bringing people from many walks of life closer in their faith. They have released nine different CDs of their music.

The Songsters have performed all around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Russia, as well as across Australia. They last sang in New Zealand in 1998.

Salvation Army Communications Secretary Major Christina Tyson says that the visit is a great opportunity to hear music from a talented group of singers.

‘The Songsters perform all around Australia and the world, so it’s a real pleasure to welcome them back to New Zealand.’
