Google's New Zealand Year-End Zeitgeist Highlights Hot Searches in 2007

* Rugby World Cup most searched for sport
* Paris Hilton most searched for celebrity
* Strong growth in searches for social networks and the big 2007 sporting cups!

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 4 December 2007 – With the end of the year in sight, it's time to reflect on what made 2007 special. Today we're releasing our first ever annual Zeitgeist for New Zealand - the fastest rising and highest volume search terms that New Zealanders have been typing into google.co.nz in 2007.

Also for the first time, we're releasing a variety of interesting search trends from across New Zealand. What sports and tickets did Kiwis search most frequently? Which weddings were most regularly searched? Who were the most searched "Helens"?

Zeitgeist means "spirit of the times" and because people use Google to search for what's new and interesting, these queries, when seen in volume, tend to be a good reflection of what's on everybody's minds. Amazingly enough, as many as 25 per cent of the search queries we get on any one day are new – meaning we have not seen them before.

The Google Zeitgeist is calculated by looking at the aggregation of the most popular and fast-rising search queries being typed into the Google.co.nz search box.

Enjoy reading and analysing these interesting and fun results.

Then he studied film-making and got Badlands out just before he was 30. More>>

Werewolf: Classics - Tom’s Midnight Garden (1958)

For anyone trying to write about it, Tom’s Midnight Garden poses a significant problem. The twist ending will be well known to anyone who has read the book, but first time readers would justifiably want to kill anyone who spoils the surprise, which provides one of the most satisfying and moving resolutions in children’s fiction.
