Capital C Concerts: Media Statement

Capital C concerts special relationship with Ngati Te Whiti hapu made the opportunity possible for them to gift a specially made korowai (cloak) to Sir Elton John at his concert at the Bowl of Brookland in New Plymouth.

The korowai was gifted as recognition of the enjoyment Sir Elton Johns music has given to Maori over the years and his loyal continuance to return to Aotearoa to entertain. “It’s the Maori equivalent to an academy award and the inclusion of Sir Elton John as an honored member of Ngati Te Whiti” says Peter Love, chairman of Ngati Te Whiti hapu.

The presentation of the cloak is significant as it’s rarely given and then, only by a chief to another ranking person.

Ngati Te Whiti is thrilled that Sir Elton recognised the honor and that he regarded the korowai as a treasure.

Exclusive photos of Elton John receiving the Korowai are available at www.WeHaveTheShot.com
