Lilyworld 2008 - Straight Out of the Box!

LILYWORLD 2008 - STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!

This BIG DAY OUT the four goons Duckpond, Christo, Larry Kronick and Heavy G invite you to take a trip to a low-tech Cardboard world through mazes of cartons, crenellations and corrugations, to a 2 dimensional world of cardboard cut-outs and toilet roll tubes held together with glue and staples!

Joining them from all corners of the Globe at this year’s LILYWORLD are:

LADY SAW: Jetting in all the way from Jamaica’s Dancehalls to mash up the crowd is the wickedest female songstress with her audacious delivery, cocksure style and no-nonsense attitude; Mama Saw has achieved tremendous success in a fickle, male-dominated industry. LADY SAW, remains true to her raunchy sexual ego with hits such as “PRETTY PUSSY”. She is bound to give her fans old and new a thrill on the LILYWORLD stage!

MAYALL vs. MAYALL: This year sees a brotherly visitation to the area by Gaz and Jason Mayall, with special guest Baby Soul. Together they will astound LILYWORLD audiences with their eclectic selections of blues, roots, ska and R’n’B. Gaz DJs and hosts the western universe’s longest running one-nighter “Gaz's Rockin Blues”. His brother Jason, AKA the “Cumbria Kid”, is presenter of Fuji Rock's Palace of Wonder, and will move you with the rarest selection of groovin' booty-shakin' tunes from Japanese Jazz to Ethiopian Funk.

EDDIE “TAN TAN” THORNTON WITH COOL WISE MEN: This year LILYWORLD showcases the mind-blowing energy and masterful sounds of this pioneering Japanese ska act. Their killer sound brings original style mixes of ska, calypso, dub, and roots rock reggae. Featuring the legendary Eddie "Tan Tan" Thornton, the trumpeter from the seminal “Jamaican School” which produced the likes of the Skatalites. Having played on hundreds of albums and most recently recorded with Lily Allen, he is not to be missed. Sure to be a Rock-Steady affair!

TUCKER: Avant-trip hop, squeaky toy breaks, jazz styles are all punctuated with pyromania, body-poppin’, “jackass” stunts all meld together to a make for a mind blowing performance by this multi-instrumentalist Tokyo Turntabilist virtuoso. You haven’t lived until you see this guy play instruments, while doing headstands building up to a one-man wall of sound assault. Watch in awe as he sets the LILYWORLD stage on fire (Literally!)

THE CROCK EISTEDDFOD: No LILYWORLD show would be complete without the inane and quietly demented show segments rolling through the day. Featuring DJ Larry Kronick Ignore us as we play amongst ourselves and mercilessly cut old classics into very fine shreds.

THE CYNICAL BROTHERS: Our incredibly offensive and insensitive old twats, DJ Heavy G and Christo are back watch as they team up to become again to take you on a journey that you didn’t really plan on taking!

WANGANEWI ART SCHOOL: There is a big buzz building about Duckpond’s live bunny painting demonstrations. It will be well worth the price of admission just to see this!!!

MC SLAVE: The infamous MC Slave Returns to Lilyworld, the spiritual home of the Big Day Out. Slave is a veteran of the musical oasis that is the Lilyworld stage and as Your Local Host with the Most will move the crowd into fits of groove and giggles.

TURNAROUND DJ’S: The Turnaround DJs are made up of the trinity of Submariner, Cian, and Manuel Bundy and they have been doing the damage on a “Last Friday of the Month” basis, for the past 5 years in Auckland, enjoying an unparalleled reputation for keeping the rumps shaking and the brains baking … so come long and see Lilyworld lose control as the boys masterfully flip between a multitude of styles from hip hop hoorays to Brazilian ballads, back over to a Roots Reggae classic and into some sensational Soul sizzlers followed by an RnB/Dancehall blend. Dance till you fall over.

BUMP WITH ANGE? Is the Lilyworld ready to BUMP WITH ANGE? DJ Ange, founder of the country’s longest running house party BUMP, will be pulling out her glowstick anthems. Having supported the likes of Derrick Carter, Gene Farris & Brett Johnson, this girl knows how to lay it down. Expect an aural joyride of hip-hop tinged house mixed-up with everything from vocal to jackin' house & tech. She's got the bass for your booty and the boogie for your woogie!

SHAKE N POP : Shake N Pop have set out to put their twist on the already huge Electro and Electronica scene by pulling out the quirkiest and catchiest tunes from the deepest reaches of the electronic universe. Stuff that sounds just as good during the day as it does at 3am, which is lucky because the Lilyworld is a place where everyone behaves like it is 3am all day long.

THE NORTH SHORE PONY CLUB: The North Shore Pony Club are a genre bending block party duo disillusioned by the glam hop and chic rock currently smearing the face of popular music and here to pour accelerant on the smouldering embers of dance culture. As a couple of kids reared on 80's pop sophistication their music is an amalgamation of black gold and white trash mixed up in a bastard disco blender.

So come down and blob out as THE LILYWORLD CREW continue the tradition of presenting an eclectic range of diverse and spellbinding local talent from the urban and ethnic fringes, All with a cutting edge sharper than a bread roll and a sense of humour about as funny as Duckpond’s Pyjamas.
