Saturday 1 March 2008

Pegasus Bay Winery, Christchurch

Pegasus Bay Winery provides a lush, fully-grassed amphitheatre in the heart of Canterbury’s wine-growing region, for this unique New Zealand music event. The winery’s Main Divide label promotes a range of great wines, made from grapes grown in Marlborough and given the Canterbury treatment at this prestigious location. This summer, Main Divide is set to distill the finest music from our country’s top performers.

Kora

A five-piece band with huge live presence, Kora features stunning vocal harmonies sailing on a powerhouse rhythm section. Widely regarded as one of the best live bands in the country, Kora is a roots, reggae and rock force to be reckoned with - if you’ve never seen Kora play live before, stand back and get ready.

Pitch Black

Pitch Black have spent the last nine years rousing the dance floor, generating rave reviews, winning awards and gaining thousands of fans across the world. Hard to box into a single audio 'genre', Pitch Black is a combination of musical journeys, created by Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson. Their sound is distinctive; ranging from ambient beginnings to cutting acid riffs and thumping rhythmic grooves. Dub is the glue that holds their sound together.

The Phoenix Foundation

Six-piece Wellington band The Phoenix Foundation has recently released their third highly acclaimed album. Described as “nuanced, textured, seductively melodic and vibrant”, The Phoenix Foundation bring all this and more to their now well-renowned live show.

Flip Grater

Singer/songwriter Flip Grater is an ascending talent in New Zealand music with intelligent self-penned songs and a versatile honey-coated voice. Flip's style ranges from dirty indiefolk, to gentle introverted lullabies. This rising star performed at the prestigious SXSW festival earlier this year and has shared the stage with artists such as Ben Lee, The Shins, Anika Moa, The Phoenix Foundation and SJD.

epsilon blue

Since his emergence in 1997, epsilon-blue has become one of New Zealand's premier electronic dance acts. Described as New Zealand’s most luscious dance music purveyor, epsilon-blue brings a live set infused with overtones of techno, trance and dub. The oneman electronic sensation has toured New Zealand many times as well as supporting national and international acts like Salmonella Dub Pitch Black, Moby and Faithless. This is one of his now-rare appearances.

Joe Dukie (Dallas Tamaira solo set)

His sweet and resonant vocals have hypnotised you in Fat Freddy’s Drop, but the soulful, bluesy vocals of Dallas Tamaira are the main course in his solo set. Not to be missed.

Hera

Be prepared to be charmed, intrigued, moved and occasionally shocked by the soft, sparse and infectiously beautiful music of Hera. Born in Iceland, but NZ-based for the past decade, Hera began playing classical guitar at the age of 8, and writing her own songs at 14. Now, just 22, Hera features on more than 13 compilations and has released five studio albums - four in English and one in Icelandic, which went gold last year in her homeland.

Module & Cosm

Always pushing the boundaries of live electronic music, Module creates a dancing-good mix mash of styles in his organic electronica with a live performance that is played - not programmed. In the world of Module, classical meets futuristic and man meets machine. He is joined by Tom Cosm and his all-original live blend of electro, minimal, trance and breaks.
