The Waitangi Summer Orienteering Carnival kicks off in Taupo this weekend with nine races over the coming week.
Now in its third year and growing in popularity, the carnival has attracted over 350 orienteers from countries including Denmark, Finland, Estonia, USA and Canada.

The carnival includes two World Ranking Events and four test matches between the New Zealand and Australian elite teams.
The first weekend includes three events in the Taupo area including the 28th annual Katoa Po night relays on Saturday night.
The carnival then heads to Hamilton with a sprint race through the University of Waikato campus on Monday, February 4. The public is welcome to come and watch this World Ranking Event between 3pm and 5pm. This event is also the first of the test matches between Australia and New Zealand.

On Thursday, February 7, the carnival moves up to Auckland with a race around Auckland's iconic One Tree Hill domain.
The final of the two World Ranking Events will be held on Saturday, February 9 with the carnival concluding the following day.
