Chart Topping SPCA Single Set To Go Global

Following its storming success at No.1 on the NZ Music Charts the week prior to Christmas, the CD single featuring a song just for dogs, A Very Silent Night, is set to be released onto the global stage.

This Christmas single, A Very Silent Night was created by advertising agency DraftFCB for dog’s ears only. Recorded at the highest frequencies possible for CD recordings, this single was designed to get tails wagging, ears pricked and all dogs dancing.

SPCA Chief Executive, Bob Kerridge says the interest from international parties to be able to sell the CD single in their local markets is thanks to the creative thinking behind the production and promotion of the product.

“We are delighted with the success of the CD in New Zealand and very grateful for all the time and expertise given. There was a great deal of involvement from many people for us to be fortunate enough to find ourselves in this position.

From the crazy inspirational idea from DraftFCB, through to the creative execution of it, the recording of the ‘song’, the production of radio and television commercials, the unbelievable launch with a “doggie disco” where we invited celebrities and their dogs to attend and the supporting PR campaign.”

DraftFCB Creative, Alex Dyer and Colin Mitchell said as dog-lovers and music-lovers they really wanted to do combine their two passions.

“As a result, we decided to release a CD single that only dogs could hear to fundraise for the SPCA.

“Imagine our delight when the completely silent song was the New Zealand Christmas Number One – the Underdogs were national pup stars!
We’re pumped on the song going international and obviously expect Snoop Dogg to appear in the video with a couple of his Poochie Mamas.”

Since launching in December 2007, the Warehouse which exclusively stocks the single has sold nearly 6,000 CDs and raised approximately $15,000 for the SPCA.

The next steps involve the SPCA and DraftFCB working with other animal protection societies around the world to help launch the single in their markets.
“At this stage there has been initial interest from the US and Australian markets. This is another great example of New Zealand taking its success and creative thinking to the world,” adds Kerridge.
