Funky Pasifika comes to o’kai

Press Release 4 March 2008

Funky Pasifika  comes to o’kai

“We are delighted to have 10 of our artists selected for the hugely successful Flat White Black Pearl Tautai Trust Exhibition which opened at Te Karanga Gallery 208 K Rd on March 1st” says Marilyn Kohlhase Director of okaioceanikart.

New works will be brought from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Rarotonga and Palau by the Pacific Artists Alliance for the Pacific Circuit Exhibition opening here on the 10th of March.   These works definitely draw people into the gallery.   The striking colour palette and refreshing imagery reflect an artistic context very different from New Zealand.

o’kaioceanikart is also proud to support another Celebrate Pasifika first - the ‘Pacific Living Rooms’.  Two ‘Living Rooms’ open on K Rd, one next to the gallery and one in St Kevin’s Arcade. They showcase the work of Pasifika designers, artists and furniture makers. The ‘living rooms’  appeal to a range of people from those wanting to create a funky Pacific feel in their homes or beautiful and stylish domestic or office environments.

The regular 28th Artists Talk will this month  feature Jim Vivieare and Giles Peterson discussing the issues of curating ‘Pacific’ art.  Everyone is welcome to “Curators’ Totok” at okai.

The month will end on a high note with the launch of new books polynesian festival and pacific auckland  accompanied by a Photographic Exhibition by Evotia Tumua.
