New Zealand Ice Fernz Win Silver!

New Zealand Ice Fernz Win Silver!

The New Zealand Women's Ice Hockey Team, the Ice Fernz won the Silver Medal this morning at the IIHF World Women’s Championship Division IV tournament in Romania today after a convincing win over Turkey (16-0).

The Kiwi’s unable to secure the Gold medal after their loss to Iceland (1-6), went out this morning with a point to prove and displayed their best performance of the tournament.
Scoring 6 unanswered goals in the first period, the Ice Fernz followed up with another 7 goals in the second and finished the game off with 3 further goals in the third period.

The Silver medal is a fantastic result for the Ice Fernz, and for the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation who have had three teams finish in the medals in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in the last three months. The New Zealand U20’s winning Gold in January, the New Zealand U18’s winning bronze in February, and now the Silver for the Ice Fernz.

The Ice Fernz finished the tournament with Annabelle Lewis being named the best Defenseman of the tournament, Tara Tissink finish on top of the Goal Scorers list for the tournament with 8 goals from 4 games.
