Perry Foundation National Championships

Media Release 4th August 2008

Perry Foundation National Championships

We are pleased to announce that the Perry Foundation is proudly supporting netball in New Zealand by contributing to the new Perry Foundation National Championships.

It has been a long time in waiting since Rotorua has been home to the National Championships. In fact it was way back in 1981 when they were held on the outside courts of Kuirau Park.

This year however, New Zealand’s top regional netballers will gather at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre from the 29th of September to the 4th of October to battle it out in a bid to claim top honours at the 2008 Perry Foundation National Championships.

The format is different to previous years as the first four rounds of 1st Grade will be played in the regions on weekends leading up to the finals week in Rotorua. There are 12 regional teams competing in 1st Grade and seven in 2nd Grade.

The Perry Foundation National Championships is the ideal scouting ground for franchises to view emerging talent for the ANZ Championship.

The New Zealand Under 21 team will be named at the completion of the event and this team will represent New Zealand at the World Youth Champs next year in July. The under 21 team was successful in Miami, claiming the gold medal at the 2005 World Youth Championships. This team included 6 current members of the Silver Ferns squad, Laura Langman, Maria Tutaia, Casey Williams, Anna Thompson, Wendy Telfer and Katrina Grant.
