Fashion Week: The Hilton Goes Off At Huffer Show

Fashion Week: The Hilton Goes Off At The Huffer Show

Huffer’s outdoor show at the Hilton Hotel was one of the best of the week – and there are many, many who can vouch for that!

Off-site shows can sometimes be a hit or miss – Huffer’s waterside location was a total hit, as was the Porsche suspended by a crane in the air at one end of the catwalk with the title of the show "Free the Fish" displayed on the side.

Unlike other off-site venues, where drinking was not allowed until after the catwalk show, guests had four bars at which to quench their thirst beforehand – a very popular move that helped to keep the peace during the wait time.

The collection is lighthearted – it’s nice to see a label that does not take itself too seriously! Knitwear was almost childlike, with motifs of fish and sea monsters - and the lobster print t-shirts made a witty and humorous addition to the collection.

In more edgy pieces, tartan was paired with perfect leather bomber jackets (top of FashioNZ’s shopping list), Swanndri-like plaid made an appearance in the form of duffle jackets and stripes were aplenty.

The colour palette is cool and easy – lime green, marl grey, blues and red wine – very modern and extremely hip. Bright orange made yet another appearance (we have seen it in almost every collection so far) – can anybody spot a huge winter ‘09 trend?

In menswear, we saw more tailoring than we normally see with Huffer – a pretty cool look with their streetwear twist. Slouchy print cardigans on men were quirky and very cute.

A key piece on the collection was the bright green tartan poncho/picnic rug/shawl type-garment, worn by one of the key models of the week, Tia. We are not too sure how well this piece would transcend into real life, but it sure made an impact on the catwalk and at Fashion Week that’s more than half the battle.
