Vote for your favourite NZ tune

November 11, 2008

Vote for your favourite NZ tune

What’s your ‘favourite’ Kiwi song? Have your say and your song could be recorded by Anika Moa and Opshop to raise funds for a deserving New Zealand music charity.

Radio Station MORE FM and Vodafone are getting together to help Auckland’s Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre raise funds for the centre.

Music fans can text “charity” to 787 followed by the title of their favourite Kiwi anthem and the name of the artist who recorded it. The texts are free if you’re a Vodafone customer or cost the normal rate if you’re on Telecom. Voting is also open online at www.morefm.co.nz.

Popular New Zealand artists Anika Moa and Opshop who are on the bill for the MORE FM Winery Tour in 2009 are going to select one tune from all submissions and record the single with all proceeds going to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre.

The promotion starts today (Tue. Nov 11) and closes on Friday 21 November. The single goes on sale at The Warehouse stores and via Vodafone and other digital channels from December 1.

The funds are earmarked to help with music therapy activities at the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre. For many children with special needs, music helps reduce a sense of isolation and creates new possibilities for participation in the world and a more creative life.

“As you can imagine, with 105 young clients attending the centre every week it certainly illustrates the need for our services, but frankly we are a long way from entirely meeting that need,” says Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre Trust Chairman, Campbell Smith. “It is great that we can help more children now, and that is solely due to the many organisations and individuals who support the Centre through donations and fundraising initiatives.”

Opshop and Anika Moa are touring the nation’s wineries together as part of the MORE FM Winery Tour in February next year so the single is destined to get some wide exposure, Mr Smith says.

• More details on the Kiwi song are available online at the Raukatauri Music Therapy website (www.rmtc.org.nz), MORE FM (www.morefm.co.nz) and the website for the winery tour (www.thewinerytour.co.nz).
