Seeing the Way We Were

Seeing the Way We Were

A new exhibition at Te Manawa is all about looking back – through the eyes of UCOL Photography lecturer Ian Rotherham.

His exhibition of photography - called Re:collection - is on show until 1 February 2009 at the Te Manawa Gallery in Main Street, Palmerston North.

Ian describes the show as “a collection of nostalgic photographs of objects that reflect a New Zealand household style and identity”.

He has been investigating the unique history of ‘kiwi style’ and this new exhibition presents a collection of nostalgic photographic views of some of these objects.” The exhibition considers the influence of household objects from the 1960s and 1970s in forming this unique style that we identify as Kiwi,” he says.

Ian has over 18 years of experience in the photography industry including with Photography by Woolf in Wellington, University of Waikato, and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Graphic Design (Hons).

Ian joined UCOL in 2001 and teaches photography on the award winning Bachelor of Applied Visual Imaging (B.AVI) programme. B.AVI is a unique multidisciplinary degree that specialises in the visual image and the practical and applied nature of visual design in New Zealand.

UCOL is currently taking applications for the first year of the Bachelor of Applied Visual Imaging degree starting in March 2009. For further information or an application form contact UCOL on 0800 46 8265.
