A Valentine’s Date - The Rock Way

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
10 February 2009

A Valentine’s Date - The Rock Way

The Rock is playing cupid this year at the funniest Valentine’s date in town. The Rock listeners get the chance to prove their love (of beer!) in The Rock’s Annual Wife-Carrying Competition.

In its sixth year, the competition will take place the day before Valentine’s Day (Friday February 13th). Contestants will compete to win their wife’s weight in beer, by running an obstacle course at Mission Bay beach in Auckland. Wives will be carried in a variety of styles, favourites being the good old-fashioned piggy back to a classic fireman’s. The fastest couple will win the wife’s weight in beer supplied by the events sponsor Pure Blonde.

Couples selected from an on air competition will participate alongside friends of The Rock – NZ’s No. 1 heavyweight boxer Shane ``Mountain Warrior’’ Cameron, in lieu of a wife he will be carrying a special guest, and TV3’s The Money Man (Brendon Johnson) will attempt the course with his wife.

You can hear the Wife Carrying Competition from 7am this Friday morning on The Rock, watch it being broadcast on TV3’s Sunrise, or come and join us at Mission Bay if you’re in the mood for romance, Rock style.
