Polytechnic Orientation Events Announced
16 Feb – 8 March

OPSA is pleased to announce its 2009 Orientation timetable. Events include the OP Amazing Race, and the Famous OPSA Quiz, an Egg Drop Competition, as well as the usual BBQs and evening gigs.

The Amazing Race resembles a cross between Top Town – and a food fight. Teams from various Polytechnic schools compete against each other. Last year’s Amazing Race was won by Social Services after a close tussle with the Sports Institute, Vet Nursing and International.

The Famous OPSA Quiz, while a good quiz in itself, is perhaps more famous as a comedy event. It is enjoyed by both younger and more mature students alike, though best avoided if you don’t like rude words. Generally a battle between Polytechnic and University teams for top honours, but even teams that come dismally last have a good evening, and often take a prize away.

The Egg Drop competition is a relatively simple competition where students build a contraption from a limited list of materials to cushion their precious egg – and give it to OPSA to drop it off a 3 storey building.

Prizes for the above events are tipped to include electronic goodies, Orientation Passports, meals, and more.

OPSA students also attend the legendary OUSA Orientation night time gigs. This year’s Headliners include NZ’s Blackseeds, the Mint Chicks, and comedian Dai Henwood, as well as several prominent DJs from the UK. Tickets for Polytechnic students will be available at the OPSA office, upstairs in the Student Centre on Harbour Tce from next week.

A full timetable can be found at www.opsa.org.nz.
