NZ BODY ART AWARDS 2009

Artistic Extravaganza Not To Be Missed

NZ Body Art is delighted to announce this year’s NZ Body Art & Special Effects Awards presented by North Shore City will be held on Saturday 25th July at the Bruce Mason Centre on Auckland’s North Shore. The evening of celebration, creativity and entertainment will feature artists from across the nation and around the world embracing the theme ‘Fantasia Asia.’

Originally called the NZ Festival of Body Art, the NZ Body Art Awards are now in their 4th year. The Awards have wowed audiences with a spectacular showcase of bodypainting and special effects from a wide range of talented artists working in this exciting and diverse art form.

This years ‘Fantasia Asia’ theme promises to inspire a rich and exotic flavour of colour, music and dance provoking the vision and imagination of the artists. Entrants will compete over 9 categories and 3 special awards, featuring the ever popular Hand Painted, Special Effects, Mask, Tribal, and World of Fluorescent categories plus a new interpretation of our own culture in the Maori Myths & Legends section. There will also be a spot prize for the best dressed audience member in Fantasia Asia theme.

New Zealand has a reputation as leaders in the body art, make-up and special effects industry for both local and international film and television networks. The New Zealand Body Art Awards encourages interest in the art form helping to ensure the success of special effects make-up artists in New Zealand and overseas.

Five time Oscar award winner, Richard Taylor of Weta Workshop sang the 2008 Awards praises saying “the talent just continues to get better every year.” With that in mind, don’t miss your chance to see this spectacular visual event, as the colours and majesty of Asia burst onto the stage for one night only.
