Ewan Mcdougall And Jenufa Waiti At Toi O Tahuna Fine Art Gallery

New works by Ewan McDougall and Jenufa Waiti will be on show at Toi o Tahuna art gallery from April 17 to May 13.

Colourful and vibrant artists, McDougall and Waiti works express a sense of power, emotion and freshness. Both artists are Dunedin based.

Jenufa Waiti is known for her emotive use of colour. Her work is neither peaceful nor comfortable. Her artistic expression frequently shows itself through the medium of sculpture and painting. She often uses a wide variety of materials such as textiles, stone, and resins. Jenufa’s involvement in sculptural practice has spanned some 15 years and has resulted in a number of awards. She has also been exhibiting as a painter for a number of years. Jenufa’s experimental tendencies in her art have resulted in sculptures, paintings and even wearable art. Her diversity, and creativity have won her several awards.

Ewan McDougall is well known for his witty and outrageous works. Works depict a kind of unhealthy excess and a twisted humour that reflects upon Ewan’s personal experiences. His work is expressionistic and appears farcical in their bright colour and thick paint. However they are laced with a healthy dose of irony and spontaneity. Ewan is a well-known artist who has exhibited in over 45 solo exhibitions in some of New Zealand’s most prominent dealer galleries. He is also a nine-time finalist in the Wallace Art Awards. He has paintings in a number of public collections and innumerable private collections.

There will be preview on Friday 17 April from 5.30pm onwards. All are welcome to attend. Ewan McDougall will be in attendance.
