Punters launch into Ogilvy to spoil Tiger’s Masters!

Red-hot Australian Geoff Ogilvy has been heavily backed on Centrebet to snatch his first Green Jacket at this week’s US Masters, firming from an opening $26.00 into a $15.00 third favourite!

Centrebet media chief Neil Evans said the former US Open champ and two-time Match Play king had attracted nearly 200 bets from around Australia, including one Sydney punter who wagered $2,500.00 at $21.00 and another who staked $1,500.00 at the same price!

“Most of the business on Ogilvy was done at $21.00 and then at $18.00, and in actual bet numbers, he’s the best-backed player in the huge Masters field,” Evans said. “The biggest bets – including one of $5,500.00 at $2.80 – are still on tournament favourite Tiger Woods, but the only player between the great man and Ogilvy is former two-time winner Phil Mickelson at $9.00!”

Evans said the bookmaker was headed for a record US Masters turnover judging by the early action! “There is nearly 40 bets on Greg Norman at any old odds to make a winning return to Augusta National after seven years,” he said. “The Great White Shark started at $201.00 and he’s down to $161.00 now.”

One of the most intriguing players is 18-year-old US Amateur champion Danny Lee who’s been backed from $201.00 down to $126.00, including one bet of $1,000.00 at $161.00! Both veteran Aussies Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby are quoted at $81.00 alongside Adam Scott, while Aaron Baddeley is a whopping $126.00!

Centrebet is offering a record number of markets in 2009, including Top 10 and 25, Top Countries, 4-Balls, 5-Balls, Making the Cut, round-by-round, head-to-heads and scores of markets with and without Tiger Woods!

Ogilvy is $3.75 in a round one 18-hole group of four, with Mickelson the $2.50 fancy!
