Casting all Australians

Casting all Australians

A Dunedin independent documentary filmmaker is putting the call out for Australian’s living in New Zealand to come forward for big film role.

Nick Holmes, a Dunedin based filmmaker, is currently producing a documentary tackling the politics of climate change, inspiring action to be taken before the United Nation’s climate change conference in December this year. “2009 is the last chance we have to make our political leaders truly aware that we need a solid climate treaty” said Nick.

The role advertised is somewhat unique for documentary film, but Nick is keeping the details under wraps for now. “There are actually two positions available. The first is only for Australians living in New Zealand (due to the nature of the role), but all New Zealanders can apply for the second. The more applicants the better - we want to see a diversity of ages and genders – that’s how flexible this role is”.

Nicks first short film, Smoking Kills, was recently awarded Runner Up Best New Zealand Film at the Reel Earth Film Festival in Palmerston North, showing the young filmmaker has considerable talent in the field. Documentary film is a growing discipline in New Zealand, partly due to the newly established Centre for Science Communication at the University of Otago.

Nick urges all prospective applicants from around New Zealand to apply for the starring roles, yet preference will be given to those in Dunedin due to travel and time requirements. The film, Instruments of Change, is set for release in November this year.

Ends.
