The Art of Teaching Contemporary Dance

The Art of Teaching Contemporary Dance – Dance Dialogue

Three internationally experienced experts on teaching contemporary dance are visiting Wellington this week to share their knowledge with New Zealand professional dancers and dance teachers.

The three master tutors are Maggi Sietsma from Expressions Dance Company in Perth, Michael Parmenter New Zealand’s most respected contemporary dance choreographer and Liz Davey, choreographer for Kahurangi Māori Dance Theatre. Combined they have an incredible amount of experience in many sectors of dance and all three of them have learnt from and danced with many of the world’s biggest names in dance.

The four day professional development programme at the New Zealand School of Dance in Wellington is being attended by dancers and dance teachers from as far afield as Whangarei and Dunedin. They are Lecturers from universities, teachers from dance studios, secondary school teachers and professional dancers.

This exchange is the result of a partnership between DANZ, the national dance organisation and the New Zealand School of Dance who have worked together to enable this sharing of knowledge and technique in contemporary dance teaching.

This event runs until Tue 16 June, the timetable and bios of the three tutors are attached. Please contact me if you would like to visit, photographers are welcome.
