Sandwiches- Whats on

Sandwiches- Whats on

Another week, another friendly Sandwiches mail out.

Before we forget big thanks and much respect to the Pitchblack boys who played an amazing 2.5 hour set on Saturday - was definitely one to be there for!

The Thursday Rumpus Room is really getting some legs now, and why wouldn't it with a 2 for 1 deal on our gourmet pizzas all night and great deals on Tiger beer. This week hosts Wade and Stu welcome back guest DJs Jefe and Lisa with some old soul, new funk, and alt country. Come down and check it out if you haven't been before, its the perfect way to check out our fantastic piaaz menu, catch up with friends and ease into your weekend. Stay tuned for some exciting Thursday developments in the coming months as well...

This weekend is another giant double header, and next week is packed Tuesday - Saturday with something for everyone so read on!

Coming up this week and weekend:

In the bar:

Wednesday (thats tonight) - Live Jazz with the Nick Tipping Trio.
Band on from 8pm, bookings recommended for dinner.

Thursday - Rumpus Room.
2 for 1 pizza deal all night. Dj's Wade and Stu spinning lounge tunes and alternate gems from 7pm. As we mentioned special guests this week Jefe and Lisa. Free entry.

In the club:

What can we say - Two of Aotearoa's biggest Drum and Bass heavyweights go toe to toe for their first gig at Sandwiches this year... Says it all really.

Saturday - Aural Trash.
Greg Churchill and Angela Fiskin bring the Aural Trash sound (electro / techno / house) back to Sandwiches as part of their massive annual winter tour, with support from Dirty Needlez. No presales for this one, just pay at the door. $10 before 11pm, $20 after. There's also a free aural trash cd for the first 100 through the door, so our advise would be get down early.

Next week is going to be fantastic, so consider this early warning:

Tuesday 28th: Rodger Fox's Wellington Jazz Orchestra with special guest vocalist Erna Ferry.

Kicks off at 7.30 and is free! If you haven't been to this night before you're definitely missing out. (You don't even have to like jazz to appreciate the talent of these guys and girls - and we challenge you not to have your feet tapping by the end of the first number!)

Wednesday 29th: Mark Pritchard (warp records) - tickets 2 for $20 (buy one and bring a friend!)

Mark is a legend with more alias than you could poke a very long stick at. Join us for this mid week treat to hear just why he is held in such high regard.
Tickets here.

Friday 30th: Minuit - Album release party.
One of our favourite bands have just released their new album and have chosen to celebrate with us. The album is already getting rave reviews and we can't wait to hear it live!
Tickets $20+bf from here.

Saturday 1st August: Stereotype / Ministry of Sound with Klaus Hill.
Sandwiches, Stereotype, and Ministry of Sound... That's a sure fire recipe for one hell of a party in our books.
As a very special deal, buy the latest 3CD Ministry of Sound CD '_The Underground' mixed by Justin Martin, Klaus Hill, and Style of eye from Real Groovy or the CD store and get a free ticket to the party! Easy.
Otherwise tickets $15 +bf from here.

Werewolf: Nature’s Boy - On Terence Malik

It’s easy to think of Malick films coming in pairs. In the 1970s: Badlands and Days of Heaven. Before those, he grew up in Oklahoma and Texas as the eldest of three brothers, studied philosophy at Harvard and Oxford but quit before finishing his doctorate. Then he studied film-making and got Badlands out just before he was 30. More>>

Werewolf: Classics - Tom’s Midnight Garden (1958)

For anyone trying to write about it, Tom’s Midnight Garden poses a significant problem. The twist ending will be well known to anyone who has read the book, but first time readers would justifiably want to kill anyone who spoils the surprise, which provides one of the most satisfying and moving resolutions in children’s fiction.
