Christmas at Clarence St ‘bigger and better’

Christmas at Clarence St ‘bigger and better’ for 2009

15 SEPTEMBER 2009 For Immediate Release

The ‘Christmas at Clarence St’ theatre programme is back for 2009 – with an extended season and great line-up of entertainment in time for the festive season.

Christmas at Clarence St began in 2007, after it was initiated by Hamilton City Theatres in partnership with local and national organisations. What began as a two-week programme grew to three weeks in 2008, and will this year run as a four-week programme of top quality musical and comedic entertainment from 28 November to 19 December.

Week one will be ‘A Christmas Romance’ featuring the number one selling artist Yulia and television personality Brendan Horan, with special guest John Rowles. Week two will see some of New Zealand’s finest female vocalists, Tina Cross, Suzanne Lynch, Jackie Clarke and Taisha, take to the stage as ‘The Lady Killers’, while week three will see the NZ Comedy Christmas Showcase entertain audiences with a line-up including Steve Wrigley, Simon McKinney and Jarred Fell. The programme will end with ‘Impact’, by local company Drury Lane an all song, dance and comedy cabaret show with special guest Frankie Stevens in week four.

Hamilton City Theatres business development manager Megan Lyon said Christmas at Clarence St draws on strategic partnerships with significant entertainment organisations in Hamilton and Auckland to enable a “diverse, high quality season of music and comedy” to be held in the city.

“Christmas at Clarence St is ideal for social groups or businesses that are looking to plan ahead for their Christmas function, with full packages or ‘show only’ options available. It is a different offering for groups and the range of entertainment means that a diverse range of tastes are covered,” she said.

“Since originally being launched in 2007, the Christmas at Clarence St programme has been extremely well received by the public and has continued to grow and develop each year – and this year is no different. It is anticipated that with strong local support the season will continue to grow in future.”

Christmas at Clarence St has full packages available with a special Christmas menu from Montana Catering or a show only package in the balcony, both with full bar service and music until late. Then he studied film-making and got Badlands out just before he was 30. More>>

Werewolf: Classics - Tom’s Midnight Garden (1958)

For anyone trying to write about it, Tom’s Midnight Garden poses a significant problem. The twist ending will be well known to anyone who has read the book, but first time readers would justifiably want to kill anyone who spoils the surprise, which provides one of the most satisfying and moving resolutions in children’s fiction.
