In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese and Henan provincial governments, Chinese Embassy and the New Zealand Chinese Henan Association present the Shaolin Kung Fu Monks in association with Christchurch Casino.

Direct from the Henan province in China, 85 authentic Shaolin Kung Fu Monks will mark the revolutionary landmark with a performance of extraordinary power, agility and strength in the Christchurch Town Hall for one night only.

Accompanying and representing the Shaolin Kung Fu Monks during the celebrations are dignitaries from both Henan province and the national Chinese government, signalling the importance of the journey and the show for both Chinese communities and the city of Christchurch.

Christchurch Casino is proud to be associated with this unique event and Chief Executive Officer, Brett Anderson, says the visit represents the strength of the Sino-New Zealand relationships.

“The opportunity to share the treasured elements of Chinese heritage with our city is fantastic, we’re very thankful to be part of this celebration. The relationship between our city and the Chinese community is strong and very much reciprocal”, says Anderson.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the exhibition from the Shaolin Kung Fu Monks – they opened the Beijing Olympics last year with their amazing skills. The images and snippets I’ve seen of what they can do are astounding! The feats they perform are truly amazing and are reflective of their dedication”, continues Anderson.

New Zealand Chinese Henan Association Chairman Steven Wang Pu Jun said “I love New Zealand and I love my home country, China. This is the first time from my home country the Shaolin Kung Fu has come to New Zealand, organised by the government of Henan, China. I want New Zealand friends to know that the Henan culture is the central culture of China.”

Steven Wang Pu Jun, formal Chinese government official, is also the organiser of the “Culture of Henan –China performing in New Zealand” event. He is delighted to be able to devote his time to further the cultural awareness and communication between New Zealand and China, and is taking the show to 3 locations: Christchurch, Wellington and Central Otago.

The event at 7.30pm on Saturday 31 October is expected to be incredibly popular and people are urged to get their tickets from Ticketek in advance.
