Media release: NorthTec arts students exhibit the fruits of their labours in shows around the region

The Northland region will be treated to a diverse range of creative output from NorthTec students at exhibitions around the region in November and December.

Rawene and Whangarei-based students are hosting several exhibitions from the site specific one-day “Tauranga Tangata, Tauranga Toi” exhibition being held on Saturday, 14 November to the “Digital Stirfry” exhibition at ENorth from 23-26 November.

Rawene applied arts tutors say that the students have been hard at work preparing for their exhibitions and that they are excited by the work that’s been created.

NorthTec’s Programme Manager – Arts and New Media Chris Carey says he’s proud of the talent and drive that NorthTec’s arts students have demonstrated during the year. “The end of year exhibitions are a chance for friends, family and the wider public to witness what a wonderful creative resource Northland has in its artists and to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.”

Shows taking place in November and December featuring NorthTec students are as follows: • “Cut the Mustard” – an exhibition of prints by NorthTec Certificate in Visual Art students at the Porcine Gallery, Whangarei. The exhibition opening is from 5:30pm-7pm, Monday 9 November. The exhibition runs until 27 November.

• “Te Puna Toi” – an exhibition of work by Certificate of Applied Arts students (Rawene) at the Hokianga Art Gallery, Rawene. The exhibition opening is at 10:30am on Saturday. 14 November. The exhibition runs until 28 November.

• “3 Rooms 14 Views” – an exhibition of work by Diploma of Applied Arts students (Rawene, year 1) at the Boatshed Cafe, Dallon’s Studio and Outpost Hokianga. The exhibition opening is at 10:30am on Saturday, 14 November at the Hokianga Art Gallery, Rawene. The exhibition runs until 28 November.

• “Tauranga Tangata, Tauranga Toi” a one-day exhibition of work by Year 2 Diploma of Applied Arts students (Rawene) at Rangimarie, the Methodist Church, Rawene Canon and the Harp of Erin beach. The exhibition opening is at the Hokianga Art Gallery, Rawene at 10:30am on Saturday, 14 November and occurs on 14 November only.

• “NorthTec (Tai Tokerau Wānanga) Warrant of Fitness” – the 2009 Graduate show for Bachelor of Applied Arts- Visual at the Old Library, Rust Ave, Whangarei. The exhibition opens on Saturday, 14 November at 4:30pm. The exhibition runs until 28 November.

• “Interior” – an exhibition by year 1 and year 2 Bachelor of Applied Arts students at the Old Library building, Whangarei. The exhibition opening is at 5:30pm on 17 November. The exhibition runs until 26 November.

• “Digital Stirfry” – Diploma of Digital Multimedia Production 2009 graduate exhibition at ENorth Gallery, Old Library Building, Whangarei. There will be an industry evening on Tuesday, 24 November from 5:30pm-7:30pm. The exhibition runs from 23-26 November.

• “Te Tau Mutu” – and exhibition of work by Year 2 Diploma of Applied Arts students (Rawene) at Hokianga Art Gallery. There is an exhibition preview at 4:30pm on Tuesday, 1 December. The exhibition runs until 13 December.

• “La Belle Epoque” – a fashion show by year 1 Fashion students. The show will begin at 7pm on 1 December in the Barn Theatre at the Raumanga campus, Whangarei.
