Taking the Dog to the Cleaners

Taking the Dog to the Cleaners

An up-market Wellington business is offering a new visual experience to its customers.

From Friday 6th November customers at Mall Dry-Cleaning in Tory Street will be able to view art by local artist Lorraine Tarrant at the same time as they get their regular steam and press.

The exhibition ‘Taking the Dog to the Cleaners’ opens this Friday for two weeks and showcases Lorraine’s talent for quirky and distinctive scenes with a shot of humour.

Mike Burdett, owner of Mall Dry-Cleaning says the idea of showing art in his dry cleaning premises blends with how he views life: “I respect and like artists. They often have different perspectives on life which they express through their art.

Mike has been in the dry cleaning business for 21 years and has a lot of customers who appreciate art. “I started work as a young fellow and now at the other end I want my customers to have the chance to enjoy art.

“Giving artists the opportunity to exhibit their work is something that adds to everyone’s life.

“A lot of Wellingtonians know about Mall Dry-Cleaning so I hope they will come and look at the artwork. The paintings add real warmth and personality to the space,” says Mike.

Mike Burdett is keen to continue exhibiting art work at his dry cleaning business.

Lorraine Tarrant’s ‘Dog’s Day Out’ collection of paintings are on show over the next two weeks.
