A Pink and Purple Striped Ambulance?

Distinctive thanks to their bright yellow colour, the ambulances driven by Wellington Free paramedics are set to undergo a temporary makeover – anything from polka dots to pink and purple stripes.

Children attending the Cherrytree Family Fun Day this Saturday 21st November will have the unique opportunity to add their artistry to a Wellington Free Ambulance on display, in turn helping raise funds for New Zealand’s only free ambulance service.

A Chevrolet Silverado ambulance, currently used by the service as a Community Outreach vehicle, is set to receive the colourful makeover. A clear adhesive applied to the entire vehicle prior to painting will ensure that the artwork is not permanent, says Fundraising Coordinator Lizzie Morgan. “It might not be a good look to have a psychedelic ambulance as a permanent part of our fleet.”

In addition to the ambulance makeover there will be Father Christmas, bouncy castles, face painting, food and trade stalls and charity raffles at the family day, as well as a chance for the public to look inside the Cherrytree premises.
Wellington Cherrytree Club owners Simon Thomson and Tracey Lewis say their decision to support Wellington Free follows a first-hand experience with their paramedics.

“Our 18-month daughter needed to use their services in an emergency a few years ago”, says Tracey, “and we’ve been a big fan of theirs ever since.”
“This event is one of the ways that we can give back to an organisation that has touched the lives of so many Wellingtonians over the years”.

The Cherrytree Family Fun Day is being held in the courtyard at Cherrytree in Glover Court, Ngauranga this Saturday from 9am – 4pm. All funds raised from the event go towards the purchase of a new Lifepak 1000 Automatic External defibrillator for the service. For more information go to www.wfa.org.nz
